Self-Care is not Indulgent it's Important...

What Does Self-Care Mean to You?

I've been thinking about self-care a lot recently.

A few weeks ago, I started a new role as a Social, Emotional and Mental Health Learning Practitioner. As much as I love my new job, I'm still dedicated to running SO..Yoga, and I also help my husband with the admin for his business. Life is certainly busy—but I'm determined not to let my self-care habits fall by the wayside.

Many of us are juggling busy lives, but it's important to remind ourselves that life is for living, not just existing. I feel incredibly fortunate that I genuinely love my work, but enjoying what I do doesn't remove the need to take care of myself.

If your own self-care has slipped recently, don't panic. It happens to all of us. I thought I'd share a few of the simple things that help me look after myself, in the hope they might inspire you to carve out a little time for yourself too.

My favourite self-care practices

Skincare

I always feel better after taking a few minutes to cleanse, tone and moisturise my face. I use a combination of two brands. UpCircle creates beautiful skincare using ingredients that would otherwise go to waste—for example, coffee grounds in their eye cream and facial scrubs. They smell amazing, and my skin has never felt better.

In the evening, I use Elsewhere Organic Skincare. If you haven't come across this lovely Lincolnshire brand, it's well worth a look. Their products are refreshing, nourishing and leave my skin feeling wonderful.

Self-care upgrade: Keep your face and eye creams in the fridge for an extra refreshing treat!

Reading

I adore reading and the escapism it offers. I love this quote by George R.R. Martin:

"A reader lives a thousand lives before he dies... The man who never reads lives only one."

I love both physical books and audiobooks, and although I own a Kindle, I still can't resist buying real books—they just smell too good!

Yoga

Alongside teaching four yoga classes each week, I love spending time on my own mat at home. Some days I challenge myself with more advanced postures, while other days I simply lie quietly with my eyes closed.

Whatever style of yoga you enjoy, time spent on your mat is never wasted. Even just ten minutes can make a real difference to your day.

If you'd like a little guidance when you roll out your mat, you might enjoy my online library of yoga classes, which I'll be launching later this summer. I'll send another email as soon as it's live.

Hobbies

I love writing stories and poetry, walking in nature, and spending time outdoors. I'm also a bit obsessed with cacti and really enjoy looking after them!

Your hobbies might look completely different—perhaps crafting, cooking or collecting something special. Whatever brings you joy, make space for it, even if it's just an hour each week.

I hope this little glimpse into my own self-care routine has inspired you to make even a little more time for yourself.

If you'd like to dedicate an entire day to your wellbeing, I'd love you to join me for my Self Care Day this August. Together we'll enjoy a full day of yoga practices, explore the benefits of aromatherapy, and create our own self-care kits for you to take home.

If that sounds like exactly what you need, click below to find out more and book your place. I'd love to see you there.

Wishing you a peaceful weekend.

With love,
